Discoloration marks are pigmentation disorders resulting from excessive melanin production and its uneven distribution in the skin.

They are small or larger brown spots on the face, neck, cleavage, hands and the back. Since they usually appear on exposed body parts, they pose a big cosmetic and psychological problem. Such changes intensify after exposure to sunrays (UVA and UVB).

As far as histology is concerned, instances of skin discoloration can be classified into three groups: epidermis, dermis and mixed. The matter is simple for the first group and usually a deeper peelling and lightening creams give good results. As for the second and third group of discoloration, the best results are obtained through associative therapy based on combining various methods: pigmentation reducing creams, microdermabrasion and laser treatments. The laser treatment is applied especially to pigmentation changes located in the dermis because this type of changes cannot be eliminated by any externally applied methods. This method is used to remove the most resistant cases of pigmentation.

Causes of discoloration:

  • oral contraception
  • pregnancy
  • light-sensitizing medicines and herbs
  • menopause
  • liver diseases
  • disorders of thyroid gland and adrenal glands

Treatment:

We perform the discoloration removal treatment with the latest generation device called IPL- Quantum SR – the world’s leader in manufacturing laser devices applied in medicine and cosmetology. This company was the first to introduce the IPL intense source of light to the market in the mid-90s. Since then, it has been constantly mastering this technology.

During the treatment, light is absorbed by melanin. It heats up cells containing pigments and destroys them. Changes in pigmentation get darker after the treatment. Next, they gradually exfoliate and disappear. The best results are obtained after a series of 2 to 5 treatments with 3- to 6-week intervals. Your skin has a beautiful tone. It's refreshed and unified about 2 weeks after the therapy.

Discoloration marks may reappear because the treatment doesn't eliminate tendencies to hyperpigmentation but only eliminates its results. That is why preventive measures based on avoiding the exposure to UV rays (using effective protection) is an extremely important point of the therapy and prevention against discoloration marks.

Post-treatment procedures:

Treatments have to be repeated every 3-6 weeks; Don't expose your skin to the sun for minimum a month after the treatment (protect it with high-factor sunblocks); Don't apply irritating and drying substances to the skin for several days after the treatment; We recommend applying Alantan, Panthenol, Bepanthen or Solcoseryl creams a few times a day.
